For Fun — Personal Projects & Photography
The thing about design portfolios when you work in Communications and/or Marketing is that they’re really limited by what your higher-ups want, what the brand style allows for, and what you have the resources to do in your current role.
That’s why I wanted to include this page — to show the fun little projects that I work on outside of my day job.
Adobe XD (UI Design)
I’m always interested in new tools, especially ones that allow me to flex my layout design muscles outside of print design. UI design has been something I find myself thinking about constantly — every time I navigate a website, I’m thinking of ways the designers and developers could have made the end result more user-friendly and visually pleasing. While I am not a developer, I am borderline obsessed with layout design and have enjoyed using Adobe XD immensely.
Here are two very early looks at recent Adobe XD project files. The “Gather” app is based on a new program at the temple; the “Gardens” app is based on common writer gripes (“I can never remember which arm they broke,” or “Which character had a cat?”). Gather’s branding and design are more fleshed out, while Gardens is more focused on prototyping at this stage.
Assorted Illustrations
The below graphics were created in either Adobe Illustrator or Procreate for the iPad Pro. I have spent some time using different graphic styles and drawing by hand, as my career involves quite a bit of layout and digital design and less hand illustration. I believe illustration is an important skill to have in any communications, design, or related role.

Below, you’ll find an abridged list of illustrations based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel Seconds. Because I love the source material, I spent a lot of time creating 20+ illustrations of the characters and settings.
